Contrite convert: Former Geert Wilders colleague apologizes for past 'blasphemy'

In 2008, Dutch politician Geert Wilders and members of his Freedom Party co-produced “Fitna,” a short film that portrayed Islam as a violent, terroristic religion. Wilders came under heavy fire from Muslims and liberals for his “hate crimes,” but fellow party member Arnoud van Doorn stuck by him — until recently.

Earlier this year, van Doorn experienced an ideological turnaround and converted to Islam.

And, as he proudly displayed on Twitter today, he has officially apologized for blaspheming Islam and the Prophet Mohammed:

Former Dutch Islamophobe and a former leading member of far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders’ party Arnoud Van Doorn visited the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah to pray and say sorry for becoming part of a blasphemous film.

Doorn was among the Freedom Party leaders who produced the blasphemous film, Fitna. Last month he reverted to Islam after an extensive study about the religion and the Prophet (peace be upon him).

He said that the worldwide outrage against the film made him study about the Prophet (pbuh) and that eventually led to his conversion.

If Muslims on Twitter are to be believed, all is now right with the world:

We can’t help but wonder what Wilders thinks of all this.
