Wall Street Journal reporter explains what AOC probably meant in that emancipation tweet

As Twitchy reported Friday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sent out a tweet arguing for Washington, D.C. statehood that was more morally right than factually correct, as she tends to be. According to AOC, D.C. was the first “territory” to free the slaves.

She soon tweeted that “the right is pushing back on this,” saying that “certain localities and municipalities did pursue abolition earlier, but none were federally recognized.”

As an example, we’ll defer to Charles C. W. Cooke as one of those on the right pushing back on AOC’s tweet:

Fortunately, Ocasio-Cortez had The Wall Street Journal’s Byron Tau to “mansplain” her tweet.

Because we can’t picture Ocasio-Cortez doing much else than tweeting.
