The news of the hantavirus has been very disheartening to me as someone who lost their father not to COVID, but to the negative effects of a COVID booster. For those who don't believe that, you're entitled to be wrong.
This feels like COVID all over again and why does this always happen during a Trump Administration?
I'm going to do my best to gather the best information I can find today.

It appears Americans who were on the ship returned home to various states.

Apparently, they are trying to track all the people down across the globe. Also, three people are dead so far.

This is encouraging and let's hope this remains the case.
This is the most concerning part of the Hantavirus saga so far:
— Adam Cochran (adamscochran.eth) (@adamscochran) May 7, 2026
1) The sick woman was removed *before* the flight so that flight attendant had *MINIMAL* contact with her.
2) Andes Hantavirus normally only spreads human-to-human with significant long term contact.
3) This… https://t.co/w4dZYP9nK8
On the other hand, there is this. This woman was removed from the plane before it took off, so this flight attendant likely had very little interaction with the infected person. Still, the flight attendant is now sick. Yikes.

But there is some encouraging news on that front just coming in!
Yes, latest reports confirm the KLM flight attendant tested negative for hantavirus. She's likely got a common cold/flu and remains under observation as a precaution.

The broader cruise ship outbreak (MV Hondius, Andes strain) is the concern driving contact tracing for those…
It may just be the common cold and the flight attendant is not positive for the virus after all. That would be a tremendous sign.

Also, asymptomatic spread is very low. So, please stay home if you are sick. That's just good policy, in general.

It's important to note this is not COVID and does not spread like COVID.
What matters most is prevention and early medical attention:
— MedLabConvo (@Medlabconvo) May 7, 2026
• Avoid rodent exposure
• Maintain hygiene and sanitation
• Seek care early if unwell
Key message:
This is a contained investigation, not a COVID-like global outbreak scenario.

Finally, good hygiene and seeking medical help early saves lives.
