Matt Walsh has managed to inflame the liberal Twittersphere over a cartoon mermaid. Yep, you read that correctly.
Media Matters Senior Researcher, Jason Campbell, shared a clip of The Daily Wire’s The Matt Walsh Show, where Walsh states that The Little Mermaid should be ‘totally pale and skeletal where you can see her skull’.
The comment came on the tail end of Walsh’s actual commentary about the race of an actor being a factor in casting decisions. His translucent Ariel argument was clearly a joke … at least, it should have been clear.
Daily Wire host says it is unscientific to cast a Black person as a mermaid: “From a scientific perspective, it doesn't make a lot of sense to have someone with darker skin who lives deep in the ocean”https://t.co/0tnbMQbC2t pic.twitter.com/VxALDQTjOi

The mermaid racism hall monitors of Twitter were quick to let Walsh know that they don’t understand jokes and have too much free time on their fins.
They are really, really going hard on making their racisms very sophisticated.

Jokes are hard, y’all.
The funny thing about these exchanges is they’re so eager to run headfirst into the fray, screaming ‘RAAAAACIST!’ that they often reveal their own prejudice. They’re so blinded by imagining racists everywhere they can’t catch an obvious joke. He’s making a ‘scientific’ argument about a cartoon mermaid. That should have been your first clue. Ha!
Quite possibly the strangest thing about self described theocratic fascist Matt Walsh’s argument for why “scientifically” a mermaid couldn’t be black, is the fact that it’s just wrong. He’s confusing tanning changing someone’s skin tone to the amount of melanin in someone’s skin. https://t.co/vSmVolWjx2

Guys … you’re REALLY overthinking this.
Wait–Matt Walsh says there's science behind his racist take on The Little Mermaid casting? Is someone going to break it to him that mermaids are mythical creatures and Disney makes animated features for kids? https://t.co/mm37KtfmgP

This complaint was lodged relentlessly: ‘Dude! There’s no such thing as mermaids!!!’
Wait until they find out that there’s no such thing as women with male genitalia.

At least there are some people out there who get it.
In a larger discussion about racial casting Walsh actually say skin color should not matter and roles be granted based on skill.
Jason glosses over that segment to instead post a joke, insinuate he was serious, and that it comprises the bulk of the interview.
Just stellar work. https://t.co/u8w2lRXKqp

Media Matters mischaracterizing a conservative? No way!
I said Ariel should be played by someone with translucent skin like a real deep sea fish and thousands of Leftists took me seriously and are calling me racist because of it. I’m actually being accused of harboring racial favoritism for translucent people. I love it. This is great

Walsh seems to be enjoying what he has wrought, as he often does. As you might expect, that didn’t go over well either.
Nice attempt to backtrack, but it was clear you weren’t joking.
— Rob (@TengoNY) September 14, 2022
Totally clear. Yikes.
you don't get to make jokes like that when you're openly fascist

Do we get a vote on this, because we think it’s hilarious!

Good move, CNN.
Who’s gonna tell him that it wouldn’t make ANY sense for Jesus to be white, scientifically speaking. https://t.co/RL1b9NTwa2
— Ethan Embry (@EmbryEthan) September 15, 2022
And, just like that, we’re back to the ‘Jesus wasn’t white! Derp!’ thing again.

Dude I swear I was going to tweet this as a joke and now I wish I had. https://t.co/3rfhBnVf34

Walsh has a knack for finding these gems.
We’ll just wrap this one up with some wisdom from Under the Sea:
Ariel, listen to meThe human world, it’s a mess Life under the sea Is better than anything they got up there
