Congressional Democrats are always much smarter and more observant than everybody else (or so they'd like everybody to believe) until they need to be dumber and more oblivious than the rest of us. Eric Swalwell's downfall is one of the times they have deemed it necessary.
Did some Dems know what the deal was with Swalwell's behavior? Of course, but they just didn't care. Heck, it was known that Swalwell got duped by a Chinese spy but the Dems didn't seem to have any problem with him remaining on the Intelligence Committee.
So yes, it's "quite plausible" that many Dems knew:
