The same day Joe Biden took office on January 20th, 2021, the border was immediately opened up. The Department of Homeland Security even had an app developed to more easily allow what was essentially an invasion of millions of illegals streaming into the U.S.
Then DHS Director Alejandro Mayorkas even bragged about everything that was done to unsecure the border after Biden took office:

The results have been tragic for many American families, including that of Laken Riley and many others.
But the border has been secured and immigration laws are being enforced now that Trump is back in office, and the Washington Post would like to do profiles on the families of people who have been killed in the U.S. as the direct result of Biden's open border which allowed criminal illegals to flood the country.
Wait, no, that's NOT what the Post is spotlighting.
Here's who the WaPo wants to write a sympathy piece about:
Do you know someone who has been deported since President Trump took office?
— The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) August 12, 2025
Our reporters are looking to speak with people who know someone who has been deported and can share what it means that they are no longer in the country.

The Post isn't alone in that approach. Take a look at what the Associated Press is doing:
Forced back home following President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, Venezuelan migrants returning home are finding life harder than when they left. Weighed down by debt, inflation and fading hopes, many are struggling to get themselves and their families on their feet. pic.twitter.com/GXxbMlsuf5

"Trump's immigration crackdown" = "Trump enforcing immigration laws and removing those who were in the country illegally."

Nope, those are not included.
None of which sound like valid reasons for seeking asylum.

Find somebody in your life who looks at you the way the AP looks at deported illegals (and Hamas).
As for the Washington Post, they also have their "priorities":
Thank you so much for caring infinitely more about criminal illegal aliens than American citizens who are harmed by illegal immigration.
— Mollie (@MZHemingway) August 13, 2025
The Left's frantic embrace of illegal immigrants just keeps growing, doesn't it?
— Blue State Snooze (@BlueSnoozeBlue) August 13, 2025
By all means, keep this up. Straight through the midterms.
The media is more than welcome to keep helping the Dems defend crime, criminal illegals, men competing in women's sports and so much more.
