The Democrat approach to addressing public perception of their party making its number one priority, which is trying to protect criminal illegals and keep them from being deported, has been a simple one: Lying about it.
The Left often frames the issue like this and then claims the Trump administration enforcing immigration laws has backfired on Republicans:
Donald Trump’s immigration policy has completely backfired—no one voted to have grandmas being picked up in unmarked vans while gardening or at a Home Depot. If this continues, his poll numbers will only continue to tank. pic.twitter.com/xQGYXs3Wqk

Meanwhile, what's really going on is much different, as is the public perception.
First off, these are the kinds of people the Dems are prioritizing while using rhetoric that's getting ICE officers attacked:
Jayapal calls the men deported to South Sudan “immigrants”.
— Bill Melugin (@BillMelugin_) July 5, 2025
These “immigrants” are all illegal aliens convicted of egregious crimes, including multiple murderers, child sex offenders, etc, all of whom had final deportation orders, including one going back as far as 1999. https://t.co/32cgc0DiYE
Those don't sound like kids and grandmas as Jessica Tarlov would like everybody to believe.

Earlier this month the Dems' "the public's on our side in opposing deportations" again came crumbling down:
WATCH: A majority of Americans want to deport *all* illegal aliens

Trump's number one promise was to secure the border and enforce immigration laws, including deportations of illegals, and he won the election. Why would his approval rating "tank" (as Tarlov said above) because of Trump following through on a campaign promise that most voters approved of?
I ran across this one earlier, which yet again torpedoes the Democrat BS about public approval of deportations:
Do you support or oppose deporting those illegally in the United States back to their country of origin?

It's not one of those "80-20" issues that the Dems are taking the "20" side of, but it's close.
Democrats are on the wrong side of every major issue Americans care about by substantial margins. Truly remarkable ineptitude. https://t.co/ODtO1efnfk

When we get into next year the Democrats will change their rhetoric slightly to try and pretend to be a little less insane as the midterms approach.
But Jessica Tarlov keeps screaming at me this isn't true...huh 😜

She lied... again.
Strong popularity. Majority support among black and Hispanic voters, too. https://t.co/Sl7pECY1e3

If this issue is "backfiring" on anybody, it's on the Democrats. Hopefully voters remember their lies and gaslighting in the midterms next year.
Democrats are letting the fringe lead them deep into the political wilderness. https://t.co/U3eV59pxC6

It's really amazing that despite what we saw in the election last year the Democrats are mostly just fine with one of their biggest rising stars being a guy like Zohran "I'm not a communist I just believe in seizing the means of production" Mamdani.
