Politico Goes 'Inside USAID's Undoing' and Predictably Leaves Some Things Out

Journalism meme

The Trump administration taking an axe to USAID and making buyout offers to federal workers in order to rid the government of some of the bloat has of course caused Democrats and their media stenographer allies to act like it's the end of the world (we're already supposed to have died from climate change but I'll leave that for another day).

Here's how the Daily Mail framed what's going on:

I never saw stories like this after Biden canceled the Keystone Pipeline, did you?

Virginia gubernatorial candidate and former member of Congress Abigail Spanberger put it this way:

Somebody tell her the people losing their jobs are all Republicans who refused to get the Covid shot so she won't give a damn about them.

Politico's also been discussed lately because of how they handsomely profited from a USAID program that saves lives around the world by... buying subscriptions from select media outlets. That is mentioned nowhere in this lengthy story:

The entire story ignores the elephants in the room, which are the endless examples we've seen of wasted taxpayer dollars.

In the days since, Marocco and DOGE have effectively dismantled the decades-old aid agency, which has $40 billion in annual appropriations and has long been America’s primary vehicle for disbursing humanitarian aid abroad.

USAID "has long been America’s primary vehicle for disbursing humanitarian aid abroad" -- not to mention millions of dollars worth of Politico Pro subscriptions to government workers who may or may not have even been reading them.

The Politico story doesn't mention or list the massive amount of waste that was going on at USAID, but the story did find room to tie a Trump official at the State Department to the January 6th "insurrection."

Media outlets reporting on the government without disclosing the fact that they were being paid by the government is just the latest example in the long, sordid history of media malfeasance.

What I'd like an investigative report about is how many Politico Pro subscriptions were purchased and paid for by taxpayers for government entities vs. the number of non-government subscribers paying for it themselves. Politico won't be digging into that potential story any time soon.
