The attorney who Senate Judiciary Republicans are bringing in to question Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford (should she actually testify on Thursday) is being identified as Arizona attorney Rachel Mitchell, who has spent a career prosecuting sex crimes:
Senate Republicans announced late Tuesday that Rachel Mitchell, a decorated career sex crimes prosecutor with decades of experience, will handle the questioning of Christine Blasey Ford, the California professor accusing Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault decades ago, at a scheduled hearing on Thursday.
Saying he wants the hearing to be a “safe, comfortable, and dignified” environment, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley wrote in a statement that the move would help take politics out of the proceedings.
Here’s how the Washington Post’s “conservative” columnist Jennifer Rubin framed Mitchell’s career:
Only this crowd of clueless old white guys wold pick someone from Sheriff Joe's operation. I was saying no self-respecting lawyer would take the job of giving cover to GOP cowards. I was right.

Narrator: She’s NOT “from Sheriff Joe’s operation”:
GET IT RIGHT Rachel Mitchell works for the elected Maricopa County attorney. She has worked under at least three elected county attorneys during her time in that office. Arpaio was Maricopa County sheriff. Two separate elected offices. https://t.co/4QSmy434zx

The county attorney in Maricopa is a separate elected office and doesn't report to the sheriff. Two minutes on Google would have prevented this embarrassing tweet. https://t.co/lqsXt0uNUD

Rachel Mitchell is damn good at her job and highly respected.

Gee, if a Republican man diminished the career of a successful woman in such a way just to try and score cheap political points, imagine Rubin’s reaction.

What's it like to be in a perpetual state of incorrectness?
Rachel Mitchell wasn't part of "Sheriff Joe's operation," she worked for the county attorney's office.

ADAs don't work for Sheriffs. Career prosecutors should not be tagged with the policy positions of their elected superiors (DAs or County Attorneys.) You know this, right? But you just don't care? https://t.co/0GrCUAtMoD

"Ms Mitchell, what sort of work have you been doing for the past 20 yrs or so?"
"Mostly prosecuting sex offenders, doing my best to send them to prison."
"Good. Very good. Now during that time, who was the county sheriff?"
"Joe Arpaio."
"GFY!"
