Michigan judge orders Detroit bankruptcy filing withdrawn; Said it’s ‘not honoring’ Obama

A Michigan judge has ruled that Detroit’s bankruptcy filing must be withdrawn because she said it does not comply with the state’s constitution. Before issuing the ruling, she said this:

Yes, you read that correctly. Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemary Aquilina told the Michigan assistant attorney general that to allow Detroit to proceed into bankruptcy it would do dishonor to the president who called for the auto bailout.

From the Detroit News:

Prior to her ruling on Friday, she criticized the Snyder administration and Attorney General’s Office for what appeared to be hasty action to outflank pension board attorneys.

“It’s cheating, sir, and it’s cheating good people who work,” the judge told assistant Attorney General Brian Devlin. “It’s also not honoring the (United States) president, who took (Detroit’s auto companies) out of bankruptcy.”

Aquilina said she would make sure President Obama got a copy of her order.

Aquilina’s making sure President Obama gets a copy? Maybe the president will even autograph it and send it back (suitable for framing). Fingers crossed!

It was the taxpayers who took the auto companies out of bankruptcy, and the taxpayers who are now on the hook for Detroit’s runaway fiscal irresponsibility and corruption. If Aquilina wants to honor anybody, is it too much to ask that she consider the people who pay her salary?

Here’s a counter-argument to Judge Aquilina:
