The confusion is understandable.
John Kerry has said people could actually die as a result of the Snowden leaks:
RT @meekwire: @GlennThrush IF #Snowden names names of covered intel officers or foreign assets, people will die, as SEC Kerry said. 3/3

And here’s president Obama speaking in Africa today:
Could President Obama show a little more interest? Today President Obama dismissive of the chase for #Snowden http://t.co/6bQa8UWrY7

Others are curious about the discrepancy as well:
John Kerry said people may die because of Snowden an Obama said he's just a 29 year old "hacker" and was dismissive. Which is it?

Obama: "I'm not going to be scrambling jets to get a 29-year-old hacker." Kerry: "People may die" bc of Snowden. Some confusion at the WH?

Obama referred to Snowden as a “29-year-old hacker” when in fact he is a 30 year old leaker, but maybe he didn’t go to that briefing.
