Ukraine President Zelenskyy is TIME Mag's Person of the Year (and people have thoughts)

This year Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been dealing with a Russian invasion while also finding the time for an Annie Leibovitz photo shoot for Vogue, an address to a joint session of U.S. Congress and meetings with Hollywood celebrities such as Jessica Chastain. Heck, actor Sean Penn even gave Zelenskyy an Oscar:

Zelenskyy needs to save some room on the trophy shelf because, not unexpectedly, he’s now been named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year (along with “the spirit of Ukraine):

Previously TIME released a list of finalists for the recognition, which included Elon Musk, Xi Jinping, Ron DeSantis, Janet Yellen (?) and Liz Cheney (??).

US taxpayers might never know what happened to tens of billions of dollars but at least we’ll always have that souvenir.

Maybe Cheney still has a chance for the coveted “biggest primary loss for an incumbent member of Congress” award.

It’s interesting to note that 15 years ago Putin was TIME’s Person of the Year.

Meanwhile, many politicians, government officials and others were happy with TIME’s choice. Here’s just a sampling:
