As we told you earlier, Attorney General Bill Barr told a Senate subcommittee that it’s his opinion that spying did occur during the 2016 campaign and the DOJ needs to investigate the motivation behind it:
'I think spying did occur': AG Barr leaves Dem senator 'speechless' when asked about Obama admin. investigation of the Trump campaign https://t.co/n3wBwoBs6l

Dem Sen Shaheen to Barr: 'You're not suggesting that spying occurred?' Barr: 'I think spying did occur. The question is whether it was adequately predicated. I'm not suggesting it was not adequately predicated, but I need to explore that.'

One thing’s for sure: The anti-Trump side sure didn’t like hearing that.
Why does AG Barr deserve the benefit of the doubt and labels like "institutionalist" when he's out here today sounding like a crazy conspiracy theorist?

I agree. He is spouting extreme political talking points. He sounds like a right wing congressman not the AG of the DOJ. https://t.co/SFhSCOEXGI

WARNING: Now the REAL Trump-Russia scandal. Barr is now openly preparing to cover up Trump & Russia’s malfeasance by investigating Obama admin & FBI for doing their duty detecting an insider attack on the country. The DOJ is now a Dictator’s Weapon. https://t.co/tUuUstYAjW

Trump is using the word “coup.”
Barr is saying he will investigate FBI leaders. Things are escalating and Barr is very much in sync. https://t.co/lXnqwZ7tAs— Amy Siskind ?️? (@Amy_Siskind) April 10, 2019
The Attorney General is calling his own department's legitimate law enforcement operations that were approved impartial judges "spying." Barr is just as dangerous to the rule of law as Trump https://t.co/21ud6GDglr

Barr just went full Nunes – accuses intel agencies of "spying" on Trump's campaign.

Donald Trump's day so far:
– Bizarre meltdown about George Washington
– William Barr is even more corrupt than we thought
– Democrats will unearth the Mueller report anyway
– Trump says he "won" the Mueller probe
– Trump's prize will be going to prison

So Barr took a dive https://t.co/KO84tJXIez

Bill Barr is just as much a political hack as Whitaker was…he just sweats less and plays better games. That's actually scary.

The crony Attorney General of the United States William Barr just accused the @FBI of “spying” on the Trump campaign.
William Barr’s loyalty is not to the Constitution nor the American people.
William Barr has confirmed today he serves & is loyal to @realDonaldTrump.

Barr's repeated use of the word "spying" is totally calculated. It sounds much more sinister than "surveillance," which is the word you would normally use to describe a law-enforcement agency's authorized actions. He's trying to make the FBI sound like the Stasi. https://t.co/xbbAPRshis
— James Surowiecki (@JamesSurowiecki) April 10, 2019
The media also got in on the action:
Just an outrageous thing for the AG to say. First, there is zero evidence of this. Second, it's under investigation by the DOJ IG and he should wait until that's done. Third, how about defending the people who work for him rather than repeating right-wing conspiracy theories? https://t.co/zbJ7dbwZYC

It sounds like William Barr is on the Spygate train.
Asked why he wants to review the Russia investigation, "I think spying on a political campaign is a big deal."
And then he says, "I think spying did occur." He wants to explore whether there was adequate probable cause.
— Chris Megerian (@ChrisMegerian) April 10, 2019
There it is.
This is ostensibly a “reporter” calling the AG a conspiracy theorist for wanting to understand if an unprecedented investigation had a legitimate basis. “Journalisming” everyone. https://t.co/a1VnC7Lgql
— Stacey (@ScotsFyre) April 10, 2019
And there will no doubt be a lot more “journalisming” on this subject in the hours and days to come.
Some dolt on CNN was commenting on the possibility of Barr looking into the figures behind the Mueller investigation, caalling a deeply political move.
Because the past two years of delving into the possibility of collusion was not political in any fashion?— Brad Slager – Private Marvel 2nd Class ? ??? (@MartiniShark) April 10, 2019
Yep, claims that Barr made that statement “without evidence” are ironic coming from the side that spent the better part of two years pushing the Trump/Russia “collusion” narrative.
