It all started quite innocently when CNN White House reporter Kate Bennett made this comment about Melania Trump’s outfit:
when you coordinate your outfit to match your Stan Smiths.

And then it escalated quickly, thanks to Soledad O’Brien, whose political switch appears to be locked in the “Trump-triggered” position:
When you’re a birther, but the media—which has long failed to cover race and racism thoughtfully—comments on your outfit coordination. https://t.co/LNze2hT6Si

Apparently calling “fake news” on the media is OK, but only if a liberal journo does it to a reporter who doesn’t show the requisite amount of perma-hate for the Trumps in every tweet.
Soledad, I have for years and years, as a former fashion editor and fan of fashion generally, used my twitter account to comment on the outfits of first ladies, former and present. If you don't like how I choose to use my account, unfollow. This tweet is beneath you. https://t.co/dsLpVRYNfu

Some doubted the last part of Bennett’s tweet:
Soledad.. girlfriend the catty remarks are beneath you as a journalist. https://t.co/Vy562hyL0n

Having worked with @KateBennett_DC, I can attest she was covering her "daily Melania" outfits/lifestyle news back in 2015.

It's actually not beneath her.
She's garbage, Kate. https://t.co/yxOWyv1D5K
