Iconic author Tom Wolfe passed away this week at the age of 88, and a flying legend who know him well, Gen. Chuck Yeager, memorialized Wolfe this way:
Tom Wolfe lived a good, long, productive life. He was writing about early astronauts & discovered test pilots doing the dangerous work & not getting recognition until The Right Stuff. I wrote the NF-104 part for him. @JeffBezos @BetteMidler @nytimes @CNN @NewYorker #TheRightSTuff

“The Right Stuff” was first published in 1979.
Hi praise for Tom Wolfe from someone who counts. https://t.co/QnzxqxtEKD

My favorite line from the Right Stuff, “Is that a man?” *Chuck emerges walking from the wreckage* Ridley replies, “You damn right it is!” #Beemans #TomWolfeRIP

In addition to advising Wolfe on the book “The Right Stuff,” Yeager had a cameo role in the movie:
The Right Stuff also included one great cameo. pic.twitter.com/MUoyObhHWT
