During a trip overseas earlier this month, President Obama lamented what he said is the spread of “active misinformation” and fake news on social media and elsewhere. Obama went as far as to call for some sort of “curating function” to remove “fake news” from the social media landscape.
Investigation journalist Sharyl Attkisson showed what that’s really all about, and “truth” isn’t part of the equation:
President Obama says some authority needs to "curate" the news.

Obama: "We are going to have to rebuild within this wild-wild-west-of-information flow some sort of curating function that people agree to."

What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
Facebook announces it will root out "fake news" with the help of fact checkers like Snopes, which often publishes incorrect/biased info.

Google discusses creating "knowledge vault" that would make sure only "Truthful" sites show up in searches.

The Internet is full of good & bad info but I don't think uninvited govt/interests shd appoint themselves curator of truth.

Has the public been launching a giant outcry: "control the news for me on my behalf, please!" ? I don't think so.

I think some special interests are upset the Internet is the final info source they can't fully control.

The problem is: the determiners and supposed non-fake news have proven to be biased and/or incorrect on many occasions.

But the "reputable sources" have proven incorrect in so many instances.

And sometimes there is no ultimate Truth, just different opinions or theories. Sometimes what we think is "true" is later proven false.

Well put.

This is it exactly. So many people/groups loathe the 1st Amendment. https://t.co/Lc3iixzznk

VOTE: I would like someone else to put themselves in charge of curating "news" on my behalf to cull out "untruthful" information.
