It's been a while since we've checked in on the campaign by Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White to join the WNBA, now that the two former NBA stars identify as women. Most of our coverage of the WNBA has been hit pieces on the Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham, who happily told The Athletic to "suck it" after it ran a piece saying that Cunningham is "too combustible" to play on the same team as Caitlin Clark.
Kanter broke the news on Tuesday that he and White are not welcome in the WNBA because the transphobic commissioner refuses to affirm their gender.
🚨 LADIES AND GENTLEMEN OF AMERICA, THE MOMENT YOU’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! The @WNBA has officially responded! IS THE #WNBA TRANSPHOBIC? Apparently, the WNBA still can’t define what a WOMAN is, but they’re absolutely certain they know what a MAN is! How convenient! WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has declared that I am a man. Who gave her the authority to decide who I am? Who gets to define my identity? And how can the WNBA determine who is a man without explaining what qualifies someone as a woman? Is the WNBA denying people the right to define their own gender identity? You can’t have it both ways! America, read this letter for yourselves. THE WNBA HAS SOME EXPLAINING TO DO!

In a letter to Rep. Marlin A. Stutzman of the House Republican Study Committee, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert wrote, "With respect to your questions regarding eligibility, only women are eligible to play in the WNBA and the individuals you cite in your letter are both men." That's it? That's trans erasure if we've ever seen it.
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman Justice for Roysha and Freedom. This is a genocide!

@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 What about the men who are already in the league? What will the WNBA do with them?
— Stacy Washington (@StacyOnTheRight) October 20, 2026
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 Looking forward to the DNA testing of a few. Start with Griner.

@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 You're a beautiful woman.
— May Mailman (@MayMailman) October 20, 2026
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 Sue them. Take it all the way to the Supreme Court. Description or ridiculous policy. Make them have to define their policies. Sue them out of existence.

@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 You need to take this to the Supreme Court Your civil rights as a woman can’t be trumped on Unless they make it crystal clear what a woman is, you can identify as one and there’s nothing they can do about it This is their game and you’re just playing it

@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 Sue them to the ground if they’re violating equal protection clause or 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 @CathyEngelbert by what standard did you determine those two people were men?
— Matt Chavez (@mattchavezreal) October 20, 2026
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 They just don’t want you absolutely mogging the other women with your stunning beauty.
— Ernie (@Ernie030609) October 20, 2026
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 This is a woman! https://t.co/68DhsLQ6g7
— Public Advocate (@PublicFreedom) October 20, 2026
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 You should file lawsuit to have every player tested to ensure the WNBA is following their own policy and you are not being discriminated against because you don’t fit their definition.

@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 They’re clearly transphobic
— Mark Sullivan (@Sullie) October 20, 2026
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 A good lawyer could probably get you some money from this.
— Roland The Headless (@Rolands_Head) October 20, 2026
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 @WNBA If you identify as a woman, you are a woman! Simple as that. So why is this even a debate?
— Zough Lina (@GodisKing2024) October 20, 2026
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 DNA test on Griner immediately. This is blatant discrimination.
— Down South Patriot (@kneis816) October 20, 2026
@EnesFreedom @WNBA @RepStutzman @Highway_30 You and Roysha are so stunning and brave.
— Watsername (@chronicparent) October 20, 2026
And Cunningham is "too combustible" because she believes that men shouldn't play in women's sports.
