I've been in the news business long enough to know that "critics say" immediately precedes what the author of the piece believes. The writer's job then is to find someone with the same mindset and collect some quotes, attributing them to "experts."
I also called it when I said that the Left would try to make "parental rights" a dirty word. If Democrats want to come out against parental rights, so be it; in their minds, it's the public schools that should be raising your kids to be good citizens. Do a Google search for "parental rights movement" and you'll see that it's been branded as extremist. Schools hiding the fact that they're transitioning your child in secret is a good thing … as California State Sen. Scott Wiener claimed, rules that a school must notify the parents that their child is transgender could get them killed. Parents are the enemy.
As we've reported, the parental rights group Moms for Liberty proudly proclaims that they do not co-parent with the government. The SPLC has labeled them an extremist group with ties to white supremacy, and several senators urged a museum not to host their summit because they're a hate group.
Here's the AP reporting on those "mama bears" who upended the Virginia gubernatorial election.
In previous elections, it was soccer moms and security moms. In 2024, the most coveted voters in the Republican presidential primary may be the “mama bears,” conservative women who have pushed for parental rights. Critics say they are extremists. https://t.co/LdsL7LSckh

Sara Burnett reports:
Recommended
These conservative mothers and grandmothers, who in recent years have organized for “parental rights,” including banning discussion of gender identity in schools, have been classified as extremists by the Southern Poverty Law Center. They have also been among the most coveted voters so far in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
…
Many fought pandemic-related school shutdowns and mask mandates, pushed to remove diversity, equity and inclusion programs from schools and tried to ban books they viewed as inappropriate, such as ones with LGBTQ content. They have turned up en masse at school board and library board meetings, fighting to ban instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation. They have run school board candidates who support their stances.
Books with LGBTQ content, like graphic illustrations of oral sex. Burnett didn't mention that.
Critics are idiots

Mothers who care about their children's schools are only "conservative"? You might want to rethink your assumptions.
— Victoria Taft, The Adult in the Room, FITF Squad (@VictoriaTaft) July 23, 2023
They are not your children, “critics”.
— FunkyPox (@corrcomm) July 23, 2023
Back the hell up.
Wanting a say in raising your own children to include their education is “extreme”. Sure.
— Stacey (Not on Threads) (@ScotsFyre) July 23, 2023
I am old enough to remember being a room mother. Not of the crap in schools today would be there if room mothers were still a thing. Promise.
Loving and protecting your children is not an extreme position and any "critic" claiming otherwise is a partisan hack

“Pushing” for parental rights shouldn’t even be a thing. Just madness.
— Torontogosh (@Torontogosh1) July 23, 2023
That's right, antagonize the loving and caring mothers even more. Go on, do it, I want to see what happens.
— Sarcasm as a Service (@SeanKen13740391) July 24, 2023
Critics say everyone on the right is an extremist.
— Kristen Mag (@kristenmag) July 23, 2023
Honestly, this hyperbole is getting so tiresome.
Wait, so politicians have to consider what mothers want for their children?
— Meredith (@Opportunitweet) July 23, 2023
I don't see a problem here.
Is there any group of people that the Southern Poverty Law Center not called an extremist? Other then themselves of course.
— Jeff H (@politicswarblog) July 23, 2023
Questioning and intervening in your child’s decision-making is not only a parental right but also an essential responsibility.

It’s not dangerous, and it’s certainly not abuse.
Dismantling the parental paradigm cannot be our path forward.https://t.co/2uFF4dwVm6
One goal of Marxists is to "disrupt" the nuclear family. It takes a village, right?
"Critics say" the AP has relinquished objective journalism.

Just as the media did with "Don't Say Gay," they've unapologetically adopted the language of the Left — note how "parental rights" was in scare quotes.
Joe Biden was complaining today about "banning" books, so we have to assume he wants middle school libraries to stock "Gender Queer" and "This Book Is Gay." Why is he never made to explain why he wants sexually explicit materials in schools?
