National Public Radio is still butthurt over Twitter slapping it with the “state-affiliated media” flag. We did a post earlier on Glenn Greenwald’s thread about the matter, which asked the question, “When is the last time NPR did reporting that angered the Biden White House, the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, etc.?” Greenwald also noted that one vocal critic of the “state-affiliated media” descriptor, a self-proclaimed “disinformation expert,” is affiliated with a Department of Defense program.
Eric Deggans is a TV critic and “media analyst” at NPR, which makes him NPR’s version of Brian Stelter. Deggans says that if “Chief Twit” Elon Musk wanted to know if NPR is state-affiliated media, he could have spent five minutes listening to their content first.
Fortunately, @NPR has created a story to explain the the Chief Twit why we are not a state-controlled news organization and do not deserve the label. The thing is, he could have just asked. Or spent five minutes listening to our content. https://t.co/6fXs3BI1bC

Bill Chappell stepped up to the plate to write the story disproving that NPR is state-affiliated media:
NPR officials have asked Twitter to remove the label. They initially assumed it was applied by mistake, NPR spokesperson Isabel Lara said. “We were not warned. It happened quite suddenly last night,” Lara said.
In response to an NPR email for this story seeking comment and requesting details about what in particular might have led to the new designation, the company’s press account auto-replied with a poop emoji — a message it has been sending to journalists for weeks.
A poop emoji is more than NPR deserves.
The full effects of NPR being labeled as state-affiliated media aren’t yet known, but it could reduce NPR’s visibility on the platform. Twitter’s policy states, “In the case of state-affiliated media entities, Twitter will not recommend or amplify accounts or their Tweets with these labels to people.”
Deggans has a point — you could tune into NPR for any five-minute interval during the day and realize it’s state-affiliated media.
No one needs to ask, they can just spend 5 minutes reviewing the lobbying and donation records for your company and your board. https://t.co/pBJrgKjw86

Interestingly, the only people who listen to 5 or more minutes of your content are radical leftists, to include 3 million carrerists-all of whom are union members, all of whom donate to the left. You are state sponsored-my tax dollars go to your org-shall I break out the last 5…
— Matthew S Harrison (@MatthewSHarriso) April 6, 2023
“… shall I break out the last 5 massive bills and share with you the hundreds of millions you and PBS received? Or do you want to stop the argument before you get faced?”
Like I said yesterday State Afflitied was too kind of a label. NPR should be labeled a DNC Afflitied that would be more truthful and fitting.
— Frank (Lets Be Frank) (@Letsbefrank2410) April 6, 2023
Good point.
If he spent 5 minutes listening to you he would have gathered that NPR is a propaganda organ of the democrat party.
— Chica'sBailBonds (@IrinaMoises) April 6, 2023
You’d probably be more convincing if you toned down the propaganda.
— TopJimmy (@jp23mc) April 6, 2023
He probably did listen to 5 minutes of your repressive pro-big government dribble then correctly labeled you the big government propaganda machine that you are.
— Richard Clayton (@RmcccClayton) April 6, 2023
Wrong!
I’ve listened to @NPR for decades
It has devolved into a servile mouthpiece for the left
— Hazzard Bagg ⚓︎ (@HazzardBagg) April 6, 2023
Musk: Tunes in
NPR: On today's All Things Considered, we give Joe Biden a tongue bath. Literally, for an hour you will listen to the abrasive sound of my tongue against the president's withered skin.— Pickled Swans (@pickledswans) April 6, 2023
I listened for decades. Had to tune out in the last few years because of the bias and editorial decisions.
You have lost your way and we are walking away from #RegimeMedia.— Zooonpoliticon (@zooonpoliticon) April 6, 2023
You totally deserved the label AND deserve to be defunded.
— Fed Up Kentuckian (@FedUpKentuckian) April 6, 2023
That’s a needle Chappell tries to thread: NPR only receives about 1 percent of its funding from the government … but it’s a very important 1 percent that we can’t do without.
This is an easy fix. Stop taking public funding.
— Andy Coleman (@raintdog) April 6, 2023
Do you take government money? Have you ever edited or censored a story at government request?
— media elite (@ohKarenohKaren) April 6, 2023
We’re pretty sure the government didn’t have to ask them to bury the Hunter Biden laptop story.
Like this obvious political partisanship? pic.twitter.com/ziWp32LP1S
— Rebel1973 (@FreeRebel1973) April 6, 2023
Your content reads like it was written by the DNC. It's why I quit listening and contributing years ago.
— 18SavyFan (@SlangeVarDave) April 6, 2023
Correct, 5 minutes of listening to your content would have absolutely confirmed @NPR is very much state-controlled
— Wag The Dog (@JohnBronco_1966) April 6, 2023
List the last time NPR did a pro- Republican story. I’ll wait.
— Teri Cooper Brown (@TeriCBrownUGA) April 6, 2023
But I have listened to your content. As a general matter it is nearly seamless with what the permanent government desires. Do you listen to yourselves? Take a blind series of comments and see if you can tell who said what, NPR or any admin flack.
— Rich Davis (@redcountysage) April 6, 2023
The thing is, you are state-funded, state-affiliated, and your "reporting" is severely biased. You just don't like the sunlight.
— casey (@kcinatlanta) April 6, 2023
Just remember that Twitter is a private company, and they can do what they want. Stay mad!
— Longfellow Steed (@NononsenseMarv1) April 6, 2023
You really believe you're unbiased and represent all citizens, don't you.
— EspírituLibre (@EspirituLibre76) April 6, 2023
That’s the sad thing … they probably honestly believe they’re unbiased — why, everyone in the building agrees with their programming.
Have you ever listened to NPR radio? Because once you do, you'll understand.
— Milo Blake (@MiloBlake12) April 6, 2023
State-funded media is perhaps even more dangerous than state-run media because it can better maintain the illusion of its independence.
Whether the bias is explicit and editorial or implicit and financial, any formal relationship between the state and the media is corrosive.
— 𝙼𝚊𝚕𝚌𝚘𝚕𝚖 𝚅 (@malcolm_vela) April 6, 2023
Then you don't mind getting all your taxpayer paid funding taking away. This would mean dissolving the CPB and government grant programs that you get money from.
— Samuel Culper 722 (@politiwars) April 6, 2023
Oh please. If the DNC came out saying everyone needs to wear bedsheets and pillow cases, NPR would be telling us this is a good thing.
Having NPR on your resume just says you drink kool-aid and like it. Maybe it's time to learn to code.
— Herbert Nenninger (@Herb_Nenninger) April 6, 2023
If you’re a regular NPR listener and think its programming is “centrist,” you need to get out more.
