We’ve been reading a lot of fan fiction about Rep. Liz Cheney running for president in 2024. In January, when Cheney announced she would vote to impeach Donald Trump, Democratic strategist Greg Pinelo tweeted that “Liz Cheney just became the front-runner for the 2024 nomination.” Tom Friedman argued that Joe Biden should run again but dump Kamala Harris and name Cheney his running mate. David Frum’s friend told him in August he couldn’t see how anybody but Cheney could announce against Trump in 2024.
The polls (which are out already) have Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis leading Donald Trump, but White House correspondent Brian Karem says the Democrats shouldn’t worry about DeSantis, but rather Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
The Democrats have little to worry about in Ron DeSantis.
Their true concern?
Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
Neither could get out of the Republican primaries, but they'd be strong challengers in a nationwide election – with Liz at the top of the ticket. https://t.co/w61oX4mVDB— Brian J. Karem (@BrianKarem) November 14, 2022

They are without a party. There is no infrastructure in place to get any kind of national campaign off the ground.

But … what if The Lincoln Project dedicated itself to nominating Cheney?

Don’t think we haven’t already seen that coming.
A lot of Democrats say they’d never vote for a Republican, and that’s Cheney. And she did vote with Trump nearly all the time.
Cheney and Kinzinger will have cozy cable news gigs by spring alongside Jenn Psaki.

Editor’s Note: Republican voters deserve answers and accountability for the failed red wave.
