We didn’t know if we should have put “comedian” in quotation marks in the headline, but that’s what Amy Schumer calls herself. Schumer failed in her bid to get Volodymyr Zelensky to put in a video appearance at the prestigious awards show, which means Sean Penn should be melting down his Oscars right about now. Instead of a stirring speech by Ukraine’s president, we got Will Smith rushing the stage and slapping presenter Chris Rock. Schumer told Variety she’s a little bitter that Smith was able to just slap someone and she wasn’t allowed to tell one of her best jokes.
Amy Schumer reveals one Oscars joke she wasn’t allowed to say — “Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie? More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun”
“I wasn’t allowed to say any of that, but you can just come up & [slap] someone”

We had to check Variety to see if this was real:
Schumer then ran down some of the jokes that proved too controversial for the Oscars telecast, including bits about Joe Rogan and James Franco. One joke found Schumer addressing Alec Baldwin and the fatal shooting on the set of “Rust.” Schumer told the crowd ahead of the jokes, “I want to preface these Oscar jokes by saying that my lawyer said not to say these. Don’t tell anybody and don’t get mad at me.”
The sexism of not being able to mock the tragic death of a woman on set. Fucking patriarchy.

Did not think it was possible for her to be any cringier but here we are

Whoever made the decision to NOT let her say it on TV- Thank you!

I strongly oppose cancel culture but can we all just agree to get rid of Amy Schumer? Please?

When it comes to comedy, Amy Schumer skips the low hanging fruit and goes straight for potato farming.

First of all it’s just not a very good joke. It is a poorly written joke. A shotgun wasn’t even involved in the incident. She should be happy they didn’t let her use it.

The worst part about this joke isn’t the shock value, but it’s the fact that it’s such a poorly made joke that there’s no way the delivery could land.

So she was “traumatized” by an a slap where both people left alive, but this—where a woman was killed by accident—is fair game for her to joke about? WTF? How does she not see that’s worse?

Definitely very funny to make a joke out of the recent and tragic death of someone dozens of people in the room probably knew.

I, for one, am absolutely shocked that she is playing victim in this situation. Never would have guessed she’d be the one to do that. Also, it is very clear she writes her own material. Good for her. So strong. So brave.

The Academy is just covering itself in glory this year.
