Comedian and Academy Awards host Amy Schumer reveals one 'joke' she wasn't allowed to say

We didn’t know if we should have put “comedian” in quotation marks in the headline, but that’s what Amy Schumer calls herself. Schumer failed in her bid to get Volodymyr Zelensky to put in a video appearance at the prestigious awards show, which means Sean Penn should be melting down his Oscars right about now. Instead of a stirring speech by Ukraine’s president, we got Will Smith rushing the stage and slapping presenter Chris Rock. Schumer told Variety she’s a little bitter that Smith was able to just slap someone and she wasn’t allowed to tell one of her best jokes.

We had to check Variety to see if this was real:

Schumer then ran down some of the jokes that proved too controversial for the Oscars telecast, including bits about Joe Rogan and James Franco. One joke found Schumer addressing Alec Baldwin and the fatal shooting on the set of “Rust.” Schumer told the crowd ahead of the jokes, “I want to preface these Oscar jokes by saying that my lawyer said not to say these. Don’t tell anybody and don’t get mad at me.”
