We understand that if you’re either in the media or consume media, you might be surprised to learn that Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has more than 3,000 students — not just four who always appear at town halls and on magazine covers.
So Guardian senior reporter Lois Beckett might have been under that impression as well when she imagined the grief and anger in Parkland on election night when Ron DeSantis and Rick Scott prevailed.
It looks like the students who survived the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting this February, and the parents of their classmates who were killed, will be living in a state with an NRA-endorsed governor and two NRA-endorsed senators. A lot of grief and anger in Parkland tonight.

Lois, why not speak with @AndrewPollackFL, @rpetty, @PatrickPetty23, @PollackHunter, myself, and others who’re ecstatic?
Nice of you to only cover the kids who vilified half of America, told us they’re going to win, and then are sore losing.
They over played their hand. https://t.co/Ej3ui1mmxr

They arent interested in hearing opposing views. They are interested in silencing them. They believe they are the only people on the planet.

This Parkland parent is quite pleased with the outcome of yesterday’s election @loisbeckett. My apologies if you’re not happy. Better luck next time!

Andrew Pollack seemed pretty pleased:
DeSantis as OUR governor is a win for the Parkland 17 and Accountability. Superintendent Runcie and Sheriff Israel should start spiffing up their resumes. #accountability #fixit
