How's this for spin? John Heilemann wonders if Devin Nunes is a Russian agent

The campaign to discredit House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes kicked into high gear Monday with the committee’s vote to publicly release Nunes’ memo alleging surveillance abuses by the intelligence community during the 2016 campaign.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi accused him of being a “stooge of the White House,” but on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Tuesday, John Heilemann floated the idea that Nunes might be a stooge of Vladimir Putin.

Conservative Review reports:

Admitting that his question would normally be “ridiculous and absurd,” but “under these circumstances” is “warranted,” Heilemann asked Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn. if it was possible Nunes, who is the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and one the co-authors of a memo documenting Obama administration surveillance abuses, has been compromised by Russia.

“Is it possible that the Republican chairman of the House Intel Committee has been compromised by the Russians?” Heilemann asked. “Is it possible that we actually have a Russian agent running the House Intel Committee on the Republican side?”

Heilemann kept it rolling through the day on MSNBC, though he did dial it back a little bit — a lot, actually — by the afternoon.

Yeah, that’s not what you said earlier.

Maybe Heilemann should think about dialing it back a little more.

Hey, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Adam Schiff already asked Facebook and Twitter if Russian bots were buoying the #ReleaseTheMemo hashtag.
