We’re old enough to remember when Ronald Reagan could zing the Democrats and the press and still enjoy a cordial relationship with both at the end of the day. Actually, we’re so old maybe we just remember it that way out of nostalgia.
The rift between Donald Trump and the press, though — which began during the primary and has continued through such scandals as #KoiGate and #PieGate — is certainly real. We’ll confess we didn’t care much when President Trump announced he wouldn’t be attending the White House Correspondents Dinner (aka Nerd Prom), and we’re about as equally distressed to learn that CNN won’t be attending the White House holiday party for the media.
A little news: CNN will be boycotting the White House Christmas party for media.

CNN and Trump need & deserve each other. https://t.co/iusuFlZNlh

They really do — it’s like that scene from “The Dark Knight,” except Jim Acosta thinks he’s Batman roughing up Trump with his acerbic tweets.
That’ll show him. https://t.co/LM7mnlbLi4

I, too, will be boycotting the White House Christmas party for media.

I understand the concern and oppose attacks on the free press, but this is needless media activism and virtue signaling. I think it's a mistake. https://t.co/U0dgvPDHbc

…and wonder why. Dumb moves like this is the reason people don't trust CNN. Clear and present bias. Whether it be with picture stills and misleading headlines or Acosta crying, it isn't news. It's an opinion pushing, peer pressuring form of propaganda. #MAGA https://t.co/Y5xiuZD3mQ

It’s almost like an extension of CNN’s stupid #FactsFirst campaign; that is, an empty gesture to regain some credibility that never should have been lost in the first place.

Yep.
I, too, am boycotting the White House Christmas Party. I don't feel it's appropriate to celebrate until we get a GD wall. https://t.co/8fUUFeuTzy
