Levi Strauss, Dow join call for North Carolina to reject 'backroom deal' on bathroom bill repeal; Deal reached?

The NCAA expects to make a decision in early April that could cost North Carolina another five years’ worth of championship events, which has put the heat on North Carolina to repeal or amend #HB2, the so-called “bathroom bill” that not only compelled the NCAA to boycott the state but also inspired bands to cancel tour dates and the United Kingdom to — for real — add the state to its travel advisory.

Legislators worked late Wednesday to come up with some sort of compromise, or “backroom deal,” to appease the NCAA as well as citizens. In the meantime, North Carolina-based companies like Levi Strauss and Dow Chemical joined activists including the Human Rights Campaign to encourage legislators simply to repeal #HB2.

Here, reportedly, are the basics of the proposed compromise that was floated earlier in the day.

House Speaker Tim Moore and Senate Leader Phil Berger held a 10:30 p.m. presser at which they took no questions but announced an agreement with Gov. Roy Cooper.
