'That's a bunch of crap': Rep. Jason Chaffetz snaps over lack of cooperation in case of murdered ICE agent

As chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Jason Chaffetz is in a no-win situation: no matter what the committee investigates, he’s going to get flak for not investigating something else, and God forbid he should let the committee drag out some issue in which the public’s lost interest. Take, for example, Fast and Furious.

Fox News reported Thursday that Chaffetz issued subpoenas to two ATF agents who were no-shows at a hearing over the 2011 murder of Jaime Zapata, an ICE agent who was killed by members of the Los Zetas drug cartel while on official business in Mexico.

An inspector general report found that one of the weapons used in Zapata’s murder was traced to Otilio Osorio, whom the ATF was aware was with his brother trafficking firearms to Mexico; the ATF witnessed the Osorios “complete a transfer of 40 firearms on November 9, 2010.”

Chaffetz and ranking Democrat Elijah Cummings both rebuked ATF Acting Director Thomas Brandon for agreeing with the ATF agents’ decision not to appear. Another witness, DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz, said he wasn’t prepared for the hearing, to which Chaffetz responded, “That’s a bunch of crap.”

Blowing off Oversight Committee hearings is becoming a thing, apparently (cc: Bryan Pagliano).
