Move over, Hillary: The future isn't female, it's black and brown gender nonconforming

While Sunday night’s epic mixup at the Academy Awards launched a thousand Photoshops of the Best Picture card being held up to the camera, some were more inspired by the speeches delivered by the makers of the real winner, “Moonlight.”

Whoever was live-tweeting the Oscars from the official Women’s March account Sunday night made it clear they were rooting for “Moonlight” all along, and retweeted a couple instances of writer Tarell Alvin McCraney dedicating his win.

That speech obviously inspired this tweet by Raquel Willis, communications associate with the Transgender Law Center. The tweet was retweeted by the Women’s March and quickly racked up thousands of likes.

Now we’re not sure whom to believe: earlier this month, Hillary Clinton shot a video for the 2017 Makers Conference in which she declared that “the future is female.” We slept through the class on intersectionality in college, so we’re not sure who’s occupying the moral high ground here, though Hillary appears to be hung up on gender as a binary concept … not to mention that she wasn’t a honoree at the Women’s March, despite an #AddHerName hashtag campaign.

Is this the last “____ … are the future” campaign we’ll see this year, or have we not yet arrived at the truth just yet?
