Before jumping on CBS News’ Mark Knoller for trying to embarrass the president by reporting how many times he hit the golf course this year, keep in mind that Washington’s unofficial statistician has kept track of all sorts of White House activities.

It’s amazing that the president found time to golf at all, but he did. This summer, he even took the rare step of inviting along three Democrat holdouts from Congress whose votes he needed to secure the Iran nuclear deal.
Obama Year In Review: Golf: 55 rounds (including today) at 18 courses in 6 states. (269 rounds since taking office.)

@markknoller @TwainsMustache personally, I golf regularly: about once a year, although in recent years I've played less often than average

@markknoller We relied upon that wonderful golf addiction in the golf industry. Always a birdie coming up on the next hole…

@markknoller @JohnJHarwood So, what's your point? To keep a clear head golf is great, also humbling. Eisenhower loved it and played a lot.

It would be nice if the president’s head-clearing rounds weren’t quite so pricey. Investor’s Business Daily reported that a weekend golf trip to Palm Springs in February cost $1.03 million, while flight costs for a long golf weekend with friends in Palm City, Fla., in March ran $805,000, or $20,406 per hole.
