The Toronto Star’s Daniel Dale has been keeping an eye on the GOP presidential candidates (and maybe the Democrat candidates as well) and notes that Sen. Ted Cruz is the first and only Republican candidate so far to tweet about the Colorado Springs shooting. As Twitchy reported earlier today, Bernie Sanders issued a tweet that backfired when he described the rhetoric that led to the shooting as “unintentional.”
Cruz chose to stick with prayers for those killed and injured in the attack.
Ted Cruz is the only Republican candidate to tweet anything on the Planned Parenthood shooting so far. https://t.co/FSP2IFJkMZ

Praying for the loved ones of those killed, those injured & first responders who bravely got the situation under control in Colorado Springs

@ddale8 managed to do it without sneaking in an anti-abortion angle. Not bad.
— davegrapes (@davegrapes) November 28, 2015
Considering how little we know about the accused shooter and his motives. that’s probably not a bad idea.
@ddale8 @marcylauren @tedcruz please, Cruz helps create this domestic terrorism, he needs to sit down

@ddale8 @marcylauren @tedcruz Praying is nice but won't stop bullets/violence started by "pro-life" agit prop supported by fake GOP hearings
— Ms. Birch (@MsBirch) November 28, 2015
@ddale8 Twist! Wouldn't expect Cruz to be the first.

@ddale8 @maggieNYT @tedcruz
Cool, where's the repudiation of shooters actions? No outrage? Cool story bro— . (@Obama_Biden_13) November 28, 2015

@ddale8 @thekarami good 4 @tedcruz ..but here is the thing: he's got to be part of the solution…prayers are not just enough….
— Mike Pouraryan (@mikepouraryan) November 28, 2015
@ddale8 This has become the typical obligatory empty comment made by Pols every time this happens. Why don't they DO something to prevent it
— Dwayne Murphy, DBS (@revdjmurphy) November 28, 2015
“Prayers” went over about as well as Sanders’ “unintended consequences.”

Because prayer has been proven clinically effective in…
What?
Never mind.
— TenaciousEye (@TenaciousEye) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz @ANNELAMOTT Only action works on earth, Ted. Praying doesn't work you Bipolar nut job.
— DAVID PETROPOULOS (@dspetro) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz praying does nothing for anyone. please honor the police by attending the officers funeral and meeting with other CS cops
— CW Jensen (@captaincwjensen) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz Stop praying and start doing something instead of inciting the hatred that causes these acts of terrorism!
— Donna McMahon ? (@Oooooo_Donna) November 28, 2015
.@tedcruz why don't you stop praying and start doing? Your prayers don't save lives but you COULD. Shame on you.
— Dan Forcey (@danforcey) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz your prayers, and words, are useless. Advocate for gun regulation and safe access for women to healthcare facilities.
— InXanadu (@InXanadu) November 28, 2015
@ddale8 @marcylauren @tedcruz Praying is nice but won't stop bullets/violence started by "pro-life" agit prop supported by fake GOP hearings

@tedcruz Stop praying for victims. Obviously that doesn't work. DO something. You're a freaking senator for God's sake. @BuzzFeedAndrew

@tedcruz always praying. always shooting. always praying. always shooting. this is the @rnc way
— ????? Doucheous (@Doucheous) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz should we pray to the #God that inspired the shooting, or the one who sat idly by and did nothing while people were being murdered
— Peter Phillips (@Rati0nality) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz instead of useless prayers, how about you condemn the extremist views of rabid conservatives who support the shooting?
— Stephen Lyford (@FocusedOnBeer) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz You talking to your imaginary friend does nothing, it's people like you & your hate speech that caused this.
— Elaine saboteur ? (@ElaineWharton1) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz Ted Cruz has proven he's weak on terrorism. All he would do is pray. #PlannedParenthood #ColoradoSprings #terrorism #TedCruz
— Swede (@Writer90069) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz how's that fucking praying working for the countless dead and families with dead people? We need change not prayers.
— Rebecca ? (@LJak07) November 28, 2015
Yet you accept no responsibility that your rhetoric incites this type of behavior? Sorry, your "prayers" fall flat.
— Pubic Slugs (@pubic_slugs) November 28, 2015
.@tedcruz In addition to praying, will you be doing anything else? Calling for better gun regulation? Expanding mental health services?
— GrahamJohnston (@GrahamJohnston) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz Are they Christian prayers to a Christian God about this Christian terrorist?
— Dan B (@danbree) November 28, 2015
Ted you are phoney. Tell us what you really think. Gonna take more than praying to be President.
— Monty Anderson (@SeattleUnionYES) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz How about instead of praying, you do something useful? Start with NOT enabling that behavior with your rhetoric.

@tedcruz Prayer does not work against terror! If so, all that praying you're doing should have moved the needle a tad by now. #hatespeech
— Deb Clayton (@SeekingNotLost) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz How 'bout a prayer for the brave men and women who go to work at PP every single day under the threat of violence and harassment?
— Impotent Elephant (@GOPSackSuckers) November 28, 2015
@tedcruz You're the ONLY one of the GOP candidates who expressed concern for the Colorado Springs killings. Wow…what a pitiful group!
