'O'Reilly Factor' ratings surge during Media Matters 'investigation,' pummel Obama's interview

As Twitchy reported earlier today, Media Matters has called for an “all hands on deck” approach to its effort to take down Fox News ratings juggernaut Bill O’Reilly, presumably in response to the suspension of NBC News anchor Brian Williams over his “misremembering” of his experiences both on the battlefield and in disaster areas. Emphasis on presumably; there’s no evidence on the Media Matters website that they’re familiar with the Williams scandal.

How’s the investigation coming along? Fantastic — if your name happens to be Bill O’Reilly.

Deadline Hollywood reports that “The O’Reilly Factor” managed to flatten its competition Wednesday evening, which happened to include President Obama’s invitation-only “town hall” co-hosted by Telemundo and MSNBC.

Overall, more than 3.1 million viewers watched O’Reilly, who took a break last night from defending his reporting while at CBS News …

At the same time, an average of 907,000 viewers — laps behind O’Reilly, but 49% better than MSNBC averaged in the time slot last week — watched Obama reject suggestions he failed to act to get immigration done early in his administration while Democrats controlled Congress, tell attendees that if they failed to vote, they shoulder some of the blame for lack of immigration policy reform (two-thirds of eligible voters stayed home in the last election) and explain he’d expanded his executive authority as much as he legally could, in order to deal with the issue, and that pushing further would be to ignore law.
