Patricia Heaton: Shocking 'VMAization of America' has biblical precedent

Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards became this morning’s hottest water cooler topic, if only because Lady Gaga and her thong were upstaged by former Disney Channel sweetheart Miley Cyrus and her R-rated “twerking” session with old-enough-to-be-her-dad Robin Thicke. Actress Patricia Heaton turned from coverage of the VMAs to her Bible and learned that things haven’t changed much.

She also linked to a piece by National Review’s Kathryn Jean Lopez, who wondered why more attention wasn’t being paid to Thicke’s “rapey” song and his contribution to the “crass and base” spectacle on stage. But “rape song”? It’s not so much of a stretch if you take into account rapper T.I.’s guest verse:

“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski, who this morning tweeted, “Shame on MTV and any who facilitate,” decided this evening that Thicke deserved to be called out as well.
