'Give it a rest, Holder': Kevin Brady, Ted Cruz, Rick Perry brush off DOJ lawsuit

Attorney General Eric Holder has followed through on his promise to mess with Texas, using the power of the Justice Department to attempt to roll back the Supreme Court’s “gutting” of the Voting Rights Act in June. Holder let it be known he had no respect for the contempt of Congress vote against him, and Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas) today is returning the favor, telling Holder in no uncertain terms to “give it a rest.”

In a statement, Brady wrote that Holder “should understand that Texas will stop fraudsters from having unfettered access to the ballot box. Our citizens expect no less and newefforts to force Texas back under the Justice Department’s boot will not win this rodeo.”

The motion to give it a rest was seconded by Sen. Ted Cruz.

Cruz isn’t the only one to see a pattern in Holder’s choice of targets. Gov. Rick Perry released a statement saying Texas has come to expect endless litigation from the Obama administration.

The filing of endless litigation in an effort to obstruct the will of the people of Texas is what we have come to expect from Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama. We will continue to defend the integrity of our elections against this administration’s blatant disregard for the 10th Amendment.

The DOJ soon won’t have Perry to kick around any longer, but Attorney General Greg Abbott wouldn’t mind carrying on in his place.

At issue is Texas’ new voter ID requirement. The state is offering IDs free of charge at any of the state’s driver’s license bureaus; citizens only need to prove their U.S. citizenship and Texas residency, and the IDs are good for six years.
