Huckabee: Reports that Chick-fil-A capitulated to gay rights groups 'not true'

Chick-fil-A managed to rile both conservatives and liberal groups this week as conflicting reports emerged regarding the approval of a new location in Chicago. Mike Huckabee, the man behind the wildly successful Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day last month, says he spoke to CEO Dan Cathy personally and received assurances that reports of the chain caving to same-sex marriage supporters are “not true.”

On Wednesday, Chicago alderman Joe Moreno announced that he had dropped his opposition to a proposed Chicago location of the restaurant chain after “extended negotiations.” Gay-rights group The Civil Rights Agenda issued its own press release in response, claiming Chick-fil-A had agreed to stop donations to groups which oppose same-sex marriage.

Chick-fil-A released its own clarification yesterday and today repeated to Huckabee that no such deal had been struck. “There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect. Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been,” reads the statement.

Same-sex marriage supporters have since put the restaurant back on notice.

It looks like things are back to normal, as Chick-fil-A comes under fire again from college campuses.
