On Illegal Immigration, Popes in Walled Castles Shouldn't Throw Stones

Ilias 'Louie' Mavros was born in Greece and came to America with his family, where he and his father ran several restaurants. In September, 2024, Mavros opened his own shop, Crazy Buzzy’s Roast Beef and Seafood in Lynn, MA.

On February 3, Mavros' body was found in the basement of his home. He had been tied up and his head bashed in during a home invasion robbery.

Eric German-Pena was arrested for the murder. German-Pena is an illegal immigrant who was caught and released at the border in 2022.

As President Donald Trump's administration continues deporting illegal immigrants, in accordance with federal immigration law, the Left can do nothing but wring their hands and scold Trump for doing what he was elected to do.

And, without fail, here is Pope Francis joining the choir:

Where is the dignity of 'Louie' Mavros?

What was dignified about this man -- himself a legal immigrant -- being tied up and beaten to death in the basement of his home by a criminal who shouldn't have been in America?

What is dignified about a family losing a son and an uncle, and a community losing a valued, beloved member?

Nothing.

Here's the Vatican's own immigration laws, in a nutshell:

The Vatican’s approach to immigration and access is one of the strictest in Europe, reflecting its need to safeguard its small population and the sanctity of its grounds. Unauthorized immigration is not tolerated, and all access to the Vatican is carefully controlled. The laws governing entry are explicit: permits are required and strictly regulated, with access only granted for specific, justified reasons.

In alignment with Catholic teaching, the Vatican upholds the principle that civil authorities may regulate immigration in the interest of the common good, a stance echoed by Pope John Paul II in his calls to prevent illegal immigration and combat exploitation.

Even assuming the majority of illegal immigrants are looking to escape poverty, war, and other atrocities at home -- why is it the responsibility of America (and America alone) to rehouse these people, to the detriment of our own citizens and despite our duly enacted laws?

Why is the Pope not condemning their home nations for the corruption and violence that drives people to flee? Why are no other nations held to account?

We all know why.

So forgive me if I don't take seriously the political opinions of a man who asked 'Who am I to judge' gay people?

You're the Pope. Judgement is your job, especially on things that are actually contradictory to Catholic teaching, like homosexuality.

By the way, Pontiff, what is dignified about calling priests who celebrate the Latin Mass 'mentally ill' (the hallmark of every communist regime)?

Something about motes and eyes comes to mind here.
