Like the rest of the world, we’re watching the devastating news from the Philippines in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda with sympathy for those afflicted. But few of us have the gall to try to excuse our incompetence by pointing to a natural disaster and stupidly saying, “hey, at least we didn’t kill thousands of people!”

Somehow, when Republicans were attempting to block or delay Obamacare, it was deadly, but when millions of Americans lose their health insurance — and website problems prevent these people from signing up for new plans — it’s not fatal at all.
