One of the more inspiring stories of the government shutdown was of the World War II vets who tossed aside barricades to visit their memorial.
In order to make sure they wouldn’t need to do that again, House Republicans tried to pass a bill to fund National Parks, among other items, while the shutdown is further negotiated. Not surprisingly, Democrats chose to block the bill at the expense of World War II vets.
Republicans are now trying to cherry-pick a few parts of the government to keep open. We won't pick and choose. We must re-open all of govt.

And on a 3rd measure, House also falls short of 2/3rds vote needed to provide funding to reopen National Parks, Memorials, Smithsonian.

But this won’t stop Honor Flight from continuing its mission to ensure as many living World War II vets as possible see the memorial in Washington D.C. erected in their honor.
