Today's turning out to be a hell of a day, thanks to the Supreme Court ruling 6 to 3 that affirmative action in college admissions is unconstitutional. It was the right call, in my humble opinion, which is worth no more than anyone else's opinion except it sort of is to me.
Anyway, I don't know about you guys, but I'm really enjoying watching the Left absolutely melt down over a decision that says that race-based discrimination is bad, not just because the meltdown says a lot about progressives' decidedly backwards views on race, but also because it has produced some genuinely insane takes.
And when you're talking about genuinely insane takes, you've got to talk about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. So let's talk about her. Here's what she had to say about SCOTUS' decision that college applicants' chances of getting into colleges shouldn't depend on their race:
If SCOTUS was serious about their ludicrous “colorblindness” claims, they would have abolished legacy admissions, aka affirmative action for the privileged.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 29, 2023
70% of Harvard’s legacy applicants are white. SCOTUS didn’t touch that - which would have impacted them and their patrons.
Well, that certainly looks like a lot of words!
Maybe if we rearrange them, we can make them make some sense. Though we highly doubt it.

If AOC doesn't already have a permanent spot on The List, she definitely needs one ASAP. Because she can always be counted on to stop by long enough to say something incredibly stupid.
This is bonkers https://t.co/HJTx0jxtgN

Of course it is. It's AOC!
Was that issue before the court?
— fafonow (@FafOnow) June 29, 2023
As a matter of fact, it wasn't.
Assuming a case like that even existed for SCOTUS to rule on, what would the constitutional basis be for abolishing legacy admissions? The 2020 census puts the US white population at 71%, so a 70% white legacy rate would accurately reflect the demographics of the country.

Absolute gibberish.
— AG (@AGHamilton29) June 29, 2023
There is no case before SCOTUS that is related to legacy admissions. Also, the Constitution specifically disallows racial discrimination, not privelages for relatives of alumni. That’s what makes this a legal issue, instead of just a policy preference. https://t.co/ciTsxiUZMm
I swear she just makes this stuff up as she goes. But she gets tens of thousands of likes every time. I can't help but be slightly envious. At least once in a while I tweet something reasonably intelligent and nobody notices. Oh well. I'd rather be invisible than be AOC. But I digress. Back to Socialist Barbie.
The left thinks the right is upset not enough white kids are getting into elite colleges.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) June 29, 2023
They've built entire argument infrastructure around this assumption.
They genuinely cannot grasp the idea race has absolutely nothing to do with any of it. https://t.co/qLEv0X0zrI
Race shouldn't have anything to do with college admissions. And, thanks to the Supreme Court, it won't at many colleges and universities.
And if AOC has a beef with legacy admissions, well, that position isn't nearly as controversial or stunning or brave as she thinks it is.
The weird talking point seems to be that SCOTUS should have ended legacy admissions.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) June 29, 2023
Which . . . okay?? I doubt legacy admissions violate equal protection (or any other constitutional provision), but sure, abolish legacy admissions. Like, who cares?
It just doesn't seem like a good gotcha. You want to abolish legacy admissions in response to the fall of affirmative action? I bet most conservatives agree, good shot. Let's do it.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) June 29, 2023
Has AOC actually talked to any real-live conservatives before just assuming that they're in favor of legacy admissions, which, again, have nothing to do with the affirmative action case that was before the Supreme Court today?
What do legacy admissions have to do with race? https://t.co/mJonmAniEg
— Holden (@Holden114) June 29, 2023
She thinks the Court is a legislature.
— Charles C. W. Cooke (@charlescwcooke) June 29, 2023
Well, the Court's not a legislature ... but you know what is? Congress. And, last time we checked, AOC was a member of Congress and thus in a position to effect policy through legislation.
SCOTUS doesn't just get to go around making legal proclamations, ma'am.
— Kaya Masters (@sisterinferior) June 29, 2023
Despite what you want.
If you have a problem with legacy applicants, there's a path to get it before the Supreme Court.
File a suit. https://t.co/bznGClOJYM
So when's she gonna spring into action on this? She's got the microphone, she's got the platform ... what's the holdup?
Where's her bill on that issue by the way?
— Zaid Jilani (@ZaidJilani) June 29, 2023
they probably could tie $$$ from gov to abolishing legacy. wheres the bill @AOC
— Brad Polumbo 🇺🇸⚽️🏳️🌈 (@brad_polumbo) June 29, 2023
She's too much of a coward to do that.
— Pradheep J. Shanker (@Neoavatara) June 29, 2023
And an idiot. Don't forget idiot.
