For a while there, “black” was considered derogatory term to use to refer to a person of African heritage. “African American” became the preferred term. Well, we’re back to “black” being en vogue again, so much so that it’s the AP Stylebook’s recommendation to capitalize it.
Meanwhile, “white” has pretty much stuck around consistently (though it’s generally not capitalized). We weren’t aware that it was due for a more modern makeover, but apparently someone felt differently and decided to take to Wikipedia to see if they could make it a thing:
Does Wikipedia not call people white any more or some shit? Not sure I remember Eminem spending much time talking about his European heritage in 8 Mile lol pic.twitter.com/wS17QgkBJU

“European-American rapper.” “European-American suburban communities.”
Now, granted, this is Wikipedia we’re talking about. Which means that literally anyone with a few minutes on their hands can go in and edit entries and put in whatever they feel like putting in.
In spite of the efforts of editors, I don't think there is a 100% consistent house style. Anyone can edit, after all.

We’ve covered some notable tweaks right here at Twitchy. But, like, this is such a weird thing to fixate on and want to change. And it’s such a bizarre euphemism, not to mention an unnecessary one, since “white” is perfectly acceptable as well as more accurate, since Eminem was very much born on American soil to American parents who were not from the European continent.
“Eminem? The European American rapper?”
— Ben Dreyfuss (@bendreyfuss) May 15, 2023
Heh.
Yes don’t you remember his nickname was European Shady
— Zachary Elwood (@apokerplayer) May 15, 2023
It's just reflecting how rappers talk. You know, "he'll leave yo ass for a European-American girl," etc.

8 Kilometers would have been a better title
— Jon Слава Україні! Baumgart (@jonbaumgart) May 15, 2023
Well, technically eight miles is 12.8748 kilometers, but your point is taken.
The classic European-American coming of age story, 12.87 km https://t.co/zgis7Bz82c

Clearly, “12.9 Kilometer” doesn’t hit the same. https://t.co/aHbzCGOWGI
— BobbyBoom (@Bobby__Boom) May 15, 2023
You know, it really doesn’t.
Wikipedia editors are obsessed with detailing the nationalities of people's great-grandparents for some reason but this is a new one on me.

Like cis- applying labels to others and manipulating them in just the way they'd be outraged if it was done to certain other groups, is key to the scam. https://t.co/tjkAz9HMYu

Everything is so stupid now. I hate this timeline.
