As Twitchy told you earlier, Marco Rubio attempted to clarify his position on the GOP tax cuts. For many, it looked like a pretty significant walkback. That’s certainly how Politico framed it:
Sen. Marco Rubio is walking back some of the criticism he leveled against the new Republican tax law earlier this week https://t.co/XdO6jGvqod pic.twitter.com/eTlq2Y5TKO
— POLITICO (@politico) May 2, 2018
Needless to say, Rubio wasn’t thrilled with being portrayed as inconsistent, so he addressed Politico’s write-up in a tweet:
Although written by intern at Politico, this article is a reminder of how difficult it can be to discuss public policy in political press. Not only did I not back down on tax cut, I doubled down & added detail for rationale https://t.co/4NTDOxcEju

The piece was indeed written by Quint Forgey, an editorial intern at Politico. We’re not really sure why Rubio felt compelled to mention that, but now, on top of walking back his position on the tax cuts, he should probably walk back his decidedly jerkish swipe at Forgey:
"Although written by an intern" is so weak.

Written by an intern. Seriously?

Although spoken by a senator with many positions, this article is a reminder of how difficult it is to discuss a rising star when he keeps falling. Not only did he get quoted accurately, he doubled down on his petulance. https://t.co/yDQGyyJ0kG

A. The intern accurately reported you trying to walk back your comments on the tax bill.
B. Coming at an intern is low even for you.
“If your life depends on Marco Rubio having a spine, you’re already dead.”

At least the intern has a spine. You, demonstrably, do not

A U.S. Senator using his twitter account to heckle an intern is not cool https://t.co/0R1QXXXtqc

Not sure if this technically qualifies as heckling, but it’s still not a good look.
Apply to POLITICO's fall internship program and this could be you!https://t.co/nFvEjCNd25 https://t.co/9uLwVSL3Zf
