Twitter lynch mob descends on Kim Kardashian after falling for fake racist tweet

Earlier this year, Kardashian visited Nigeria for a concert. And yesterday afternoon, she purportedly sent out this racist tweet:

“Nigeria is such a disgusting country. I couldn’t wait to leave. lol Scott said their women look like apes and I agree.”

Twitterers were shocked that she could say something so vile:

And it didn’t take long for the lynch mob to set their sights on her:

As it turns out, the tweet was a fake.

Kardashian has a verified Twitter account. Had the tweet been authentic, a blue checkmark would appear next to her name, as it does in this tweet:

The tweet in question has no such checkmark. A search for the tweet in Kardashian’s feed also yields no positive results on automated Twitter aggregator Topsy.
