As Twitchy told you, the deadly “road rage” attack in New York that left a reported seven people dead (so far) is being investigated as a terrorist incident. According to multiple media reports, the suspect shouted “Allahu Akhbar.”
But CNN found a less problematic way to frame it:
"suspect was yelling "God is great" in Arabic" – thanks for inventing this careful dodge, AP. pic.twitter.com/SEzkkooq13

Yep. Thanks a bunch.
.@CNN -he was NOT yelling “God is great”, take that OUT of quotation marks. #DoYourJob @jaketapper @cnnbrk #NYC pic.twitter.com/eRJsKtqHuo

CNN’s Jake Tapper defended the network’s wording:
i really have no idea what you're objecting to. We said what he said in Arabic and provided rough translation.
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) October 31, 2017
Fair enough. But why not just spell it out, since everyone knows what “Allahu Akhbar” means anyway?
You know what the actual translation is, so why provide a rough translation for your viewers? It's misleading, at best.

"Rough translation". Come on. ?

CNN making sure to point out that “Allahu Akbar” means “God is Great” and is often said on joyous occasions. #ThisIsCNN #ThisIsTrash

I guarantee you not one witness said "He was yelling 'God is Great' in Arabic."@CNN you are #FakeNews pic.twitter.com/8FXY5wVmgj

We wouldn't want people to recognize the words being screamed, in case they're around another similar attack… https://t.co/a0TEdiUlsH
