Have You MET Your Son? Tim Kaine Shaming Trump for Not Being a Better Role Model Was REALLY Dumb

AP Photo/Ben Curtis

Senator Tim Kaine picked a strange hill on Sunday and shocker, said something pretty stupid.

Then again, I can't remember the last time this guy didn't say something that not only embarrassed himself, but the state of Virginia as well. As a Virginian, I still can't believe anyone votes for this man.

And every day I am incredibly thankful that he was never our VP which could have lined him up for president ... yeah, yikes.

Kaine declared it an embarrassment for a great nation to have a leader no parent would ever encourage a child to emulate, then dropped a link to coverage of President Trump’s Ohio rally.

The response that followed did not require a focus group. It simply asked whether the senator had spent much time with his own son.

That FOO chick, always bringing the bombs. Heh

Linwood “Woody” Kaine, the youngest of Tim and Anne Holton Kaine’s three children, drew national attention in March 2017. A “March 4 Trump” gathering filled the Minnesota State Capitol rotunda. Counter-protesters arrived in black clothing with faces covered. Authorities said a smoke bomb went off inside. Woody Kaine, then 24 and living in Minneapolis, was among those who ran. Officers caught him after he resisted. He later pleaded guilty to obstructing the legal process, served four days of a suspended jail sentence, and drew a year of probation. Related misdemeanor counts were dismissed.

That record sits in plain view. A sitting senator whose son was charged after a clash at a pro-Trump event now suggests Trump is the figure parents should keep away from their kids. The contrast does the work. Kaine’s office previously stressed that Woody faced no charges for the disruption itself and that the family supports him. Fair enough. Love for a child does not erase a guilty plea or the optics of lecturing the country on emulation while that history remains one search away.

Trump’s adult children, whatever else critics say about them, have not produced a comparable courtroom episode tied to street protests.

Hypocrisy is old news in politics. The speed of this particular example still stands out. Kaine framed a routine midterm rally as proof that Trump fails a basic parental test. Readers applied the identical test one generation closer to the senator and found the lecture harder to swallow. Four days in jail and a probation term do not define a life. They do make public sermons about role models a tougher sell. The original post did not age well. Receipts rarely do.
