I have seen a lot of campus activists play victim after they spent a year turning a university into a circus. Mahmoud Khalil just took it to federal court.The Columbia protest spokesman — the same guy ICE grabbed in 2025, the same green-card holder who still faces deportation — announced a lawsuit Monday against Columbia and SIPA Dean Keren Yarhi-Milo. He says the school discriminated against Palestinian students, ignored their safety, and paved the way for the Trump administration to target him. He wants the Palestine Working Group unsuspended, campus access restored, and money. Naturally.
Today, I am filing a lawsuit against Columbia University and SIPA Dean Keren Yarhi-Milo for their gross and systemic discrimination against Palestinian students at Columbia. I am joined in this action by my friends at the Palestine Working Group.

Columbia did not care. Our safety and our wellbeing did not serve the ideological project its Board of Trustees was protecting, so they traded us away.
We are suing because no student should ever have to go through the hell Columbia put us through all these years.
I will continue to seek accountability for all the wrongs that were done to me and my peers. Next, I will turn to the hateful individuals at Columbia who were also responsible for what we endured. Stay tuned.

People who actually watched the 2024 encampments remembered Hamilton Hall, building takeovers, Jewish students getting doxxed and blocked from class, and a movement that treated “intifada” like a campus branding exercise.
I will give Khalil this much: Columbia was a disaster. The administration folded, dithered, and treated Jewish students like an inconvenience until donors and Congress made them care. That is not the same thing as “Columbia persecuted me for being Palestinian.” One group occupied buildings. The other group asked to walk to class without being screamed at. Only one of those stories now comes with a press conference and a damages demand.
