To those in the know, plans for 3D-printable guns have been out there for a while now and readily available to the public; The New York Post even posted a photo of a really, really small “3D-printed assault rifle,” the plans for which have been downloaded over a thousand times. What’s new is the fight over free speech and whether the code to print such a gun can be distributed over the Internet.
New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, though, is claiming a “big win” over Cody Wilson, founder and director of Defense Distributed.

It's protected by the 1st amendment. The sale and manufacture of guns is already regulated, and it is still illegal for someone who isn't allowed to have one. But the information is free speech.
