After the mass murder in Sutherland Springs yesterday, Geraldo Rivera made this observation:
God help us another mass murder, sending prayers to #Texas Horrifying & why we need at least 1 good guy w a gun everywhere crowds gather
— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) November 5, 2017
Rivera subsequently walked it back slightly:
When I say we need 1 good guy w a gun wherever crowds gather, it's recognition there are 400M guns in US-1000's of nihilistic punks can kill
— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) November 6, 2017
We have lost gun control debate-there are so many #AR15 & bumpstocks in circulation we must work to mitigate losses when savages go crazy
— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) November 6, 2017
But with that first tweet about needing a “good guy with a gun everywhere crowds gather,” Rivera opened himself up to an avalanche of backlash:
Area man who thinks black boys in hoodies and hip hop are the real danger calls for shootouts in church. https://t.co/FQolIKxZmG

No.
You guys need to take Violence towards Women, Child Abuse, & Animal Cruelty for the canary in the coal mine that it is.
You need to disarm.
And *you* in particular need to retire and stop talking.#TexasChurchMassacre #gunsense https://t.co/LgSpzlaBIL

Anyone else want an armed "good guy" in the back of every church on Sunday? https://t.co/fzJo6cPPzH

That is a stunningly moronic talking point bought and paid for by #TerroristNRA. When has it ever worked? You want guns in kindergarten?
— Flipping Houses (@BlueCrew2020) November 6, 2017
If only there had been a good guy with a gun when 9/11 happened he would've shot those evil planes out of the sky and saved us all. #Prayers https://t.co/DvdYnqGA94

The "good guy w a gun" didn't end the carnage. They almost never do. The monster shot himself. And you're an idiot shilling for the NRA. https://t.co/USLSbWTSjR

Good guys with guns haven't prevented anything yet & sure won't with assault weapons.
They look just like bad guys with guns. #GunControl https://t.co/9kWcdDJ50f
