CNN has a new poll out of Republican and Republican-leaning independent registered voters and it’s mostly good news for Donald Trump:
New CNN poll
Trump 24
Bush 13
Carson 9
Rubio 8
Walker 8
Paul 6
Cruz 5
Fiorina 5
Kasich 5
Huckabee 4http://t.co/DK6qgh5GZB— Jonathan Karl (@jonkarl) August 18, 2015

Not surprisingly, Trump leads the field on the issue of illegal immigration:
CNN: Who best can handle illegal immigration? GOP RVs: Trump 44, Bush 13. http://t.co/P9hs9jqju0

And the economy:

But Trump also leads — by a lot — on the the question of who would best handle ISIS:

This is a little shocking as Trump told NBC’s Chuck Todd on Sunday’s Meet the Press that he gets his military advice from watching TV shows:

Oddly, no other GOP candidate has attacked Trump on this:
any other cycle, Trump comment about getting military advice from "watching TV shows" wld have had other camps filleting him endlessly..

When it comes to social issues, however, Trump’s lead shrinks:
CNN: Who best can handle social issues, such as abortion and same-sex marriage? GOP RVs: Trump 19, Bush 15, Carson 12.

And even after polling so high on individual issues, GOP voters still don’t think Trump is the best choice as a nominee:
@NoahCRothman Yet by 20 points, Republican RVs think someone other than Trump as nominee is needed to win the general election.

From the poll:
Analysis: We like Trump, but he can’t win?
