#BreloVerdict demonstrators join hands to block Cleveland highway in protest

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and police chief Calvin Williams held an afternoon press conference at which they gave an update on the state of the city following the announcement this morning of a not guilty verdict in the case of Cleveland police officer Michael Brelo, who was charged with voluntary manslaughter in the shooting deaths of Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams.

Both the mayor and police chief praised the public for remaining peaceful, although Williams asked the public to “bear with us” as demonstrators occupied downtown streets and linked arms to block the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway in both directions — a situation the chief described as a “minor inconvenience.”
