‘Maybe thank a cop today?’: Two Police officers shot and killed overnight in California and Wisconsin

Tragic news in two states to report this morning.

San Jose, Calif. Police Officer Michael Johnson was shot and killed last night while investigating a report of an armed and drunk suicidal man, later identified as Scott Dunham:

Because Dunham, 57, had access to weapons, including a rifle, the family member feared he may harm someone.

As San Jose police officers approached Dunham’s apartment complex, police say Dunham opened fire, possibly from a porch or patio.

The bullets struck an officer, a 12-year veteran of the police department, who died at the scene.

Dunham was found dead after a standoff with officers:

And in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a state trooper was killed in a gunfight with a bank robbery suspect:

Investigators say the robbery suspect first killed a 60-year-old man while stealing his car shortly after the robbery:

Our prayers are with the families of both officers this morning.
