Find somebody — anybody — who is in the U.S. illegally and it's guaranteed that just about any Democrat you talk to about it will find an excuse for why the person shouldn't be deported.
The Democrats also get plenty of help with the spin from the media who help the Left try to convince everybody that the definition of "illegal" changes when it's applied to the people they're trying to protect.
Tom Homan had to remind a CBS News reporter that anybody in the country illegally is subject to deportation after she tried pushing a Democrat talking point. School is in session:

CBS: "Rep. Maria Salazar cited the stat that 50% of ICE detainees don't have an additional criminal charge here."
Homan: "Are they in the country illegally?"
CBS: "Yes."
Homan: "Then they are deportable."

Notice how easily the Dems and media move the goalpost from "they don't have any criminal charges" to "they don't have any additional criminal charges" when necessary.
CBS: "Rep. Maria Salazar cited the stat that 50% of ICE detainees don't have an additional criminal charge here."
Homan: "Are they in the country illegally?"
CBS: "Yes."
Homan: "Then they are deportable."
CBS: "But so are millions of people…"
Homan: "Yea… if you’re in the country illegally you got a problem. You shouldn’t be here."

It's really that simple.
The reporter’s whole premise collapses on the first word: illegal. No extra charge is required to enforce immigration law—CBS knows that; they just want viewers confused enough to oppose deportations.

The “illegal” in “illegal alien” perplexes the Democrats and the media.

That's why they try to pretend it's not there by using terms like "undocumented."
