If the economy is so bad, why is Toys R Us starting to thrive again? Digging deeper into the article. Toys R Us currently has 40 stores in America. Now, admittedly, when it filed for bankruptcy, it had over 700 stores. This news brings the new total to 160. It also seems the kids who grew up hearing that cherished jingle took it to heart because, per the data, 55 percent of sales come from adult-only households. Meaning a lot of us who grew up singing: ♫ I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid ♪ really meant it!
